No. 21 Baseball Powers Past Marshall In Seven Innings

CONWAY, S.C. — Domenico Tozzi blasted two home runs and Jacob Morrison remained unbeaten on the mound as No. 21 Coastal Carolina rolled to an 11-1 run-rule victory over Marshall on Thursday night at Springs Brooks Stadium. The win came in front of a season-high crowd of 4,073 fans.

Tozzi launched a pair of two-run homers — one in the fourth and another in the sixth — and added a walk in a 2-for-3 night at the plate. The freshman designated hitter accounted for four RBIs as the Chanticleers (28-10, 12-4 Sun Belt) improved to 15-3 at home.

Morrison (7-0) continued his dominant run on the mound, tossing six innings of three-hit ball while allowing just one run and striking out six. The senior right-hander lowered his ERA to 2.28 and has now pitched at least six innings in four of his last five starts.

Blake Barthol and Wells Sykes also fueled the offense. Barthol finished 2-for-4 with a solo home run and two RBIs, while Sykes reached base three times, scored twice, and added an RBI double in the seventh to end the game early. Dean Mihos notched three hits and an RBI and added his sixth stolen base of the season.

The Chanticleers broke open a 3-1 game with a four-run sixth inning and ended it early with another four-run outburst in the seventh, capped by Ty Dooley's two-run single and Sykes' walk-off double.

Marshall (18-20, 6-10 SBC) managed just three hits — including a solo home run by catcher Nolan Wilson — and committed one error. Starting pitcher Bryce Blevins (3-5) was tagged for six runs on seven hits over 5.1 innings.

The series continues Friday at 6 p.m. ET.
