No. 21 Baseball Takes Series Win With Friday Shutout

CONWAY, S.C. — No. 21 Coastal Carolina rolled to a 10-0 run-rule victory over Marshall in seven innings Friday night at Springs Brooks Stadium, backed by a complete-game shutout from Cameron Flukey and a steady offensive eruption in the middle innings.

Flukey (3-1) scattered five hits over 7.0 scoreless innings, striking out six without issuing a walk in an 81-pitch gem. It marked his second complete game of the season and helped the Chanticleers (29-10, 13-4 Sun Belt) secure the Sun Belt series win and improve to 16-3 at home.

Coastal broke a scoreless tie with a run in the fourth inning before exploding for five runs in the fifth. The Chants tacked on two runs each in the sixth and seventh to invoke the run rule for the second straight night.

Caden Bodine led the offense with a 3-for-3 performance, including two doubles, two runs scored and a walk. Ty Dooley doubled twice and drove in two runs, while Walker Mitchell added a two-run double. Domenico Tozzi delivered a pair of hits and two RBIs, and Colby Thorndyke chipped in a double and an RBI.

The Chanticleers scored nine of their 10 runs from the fourth inning on, capitalizing on three Marshall errors and four stolen bases. The Thundering Herd (18-21, 6-11 Sun Belt) were shut out for the fourth time this season and held to five hits for the second straight game.

Griffin Miller (4-2) took the loss for Marshall, allowing six runs (three earned) in 4.1 innings.

The two teams will close out the series Saturday at 1 p.m.
