Box Score MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. – Coastal Carolina's late push came up short as the No. 21 Chanticleers dropped a 4-2 decision at College of Charleston on Tuesday night at Patriots Point.

Trailing 3-0 entering the eighth, the Chanticleers (30-11) got back in the game behind a two-run homer from Sebastian Alexander – his eighth of the season – but couldn't overcome a steady Cougars (23-16) pitching staff that stranded nine Coastal runners on base.

Charleston manufactured single runs in the second, fifth, seventh, and eighth innings. An obstruction call at first base in the second allowed the Cougars' first run to score, and they added runs on RBI groundouts and a bases-loaded walk.

Coastal starter Luke Jones (2-2) struck out five and allowed two runs over 4.2 innings but took the loss. Charleston reliever Jackson Murray (1-1) earned the win in relief, while closer Trey Aiken worked the final two innings for his eighth save.

The Chants outhit Charleston 12-8, led by Domenico Tozzi's 3-for-4 night and Dean Mihos' 3-for-5 effort. Coastal, however, hit into a double play in the ninth and saw two runners cut down stealing.

Coastal continues a five-game road trip this weekend with a three-game series at James Madison.
