GREENSBORO, N.C. — No. 19 Coastal Carolina plated five runs across the first three innings and never looked back, cruising to an 8-2 road win over UNC Greensboro on Tuesday night at UNCG Baseball Stadium.
Sebastian Alexander drove in three runs, including a two-run single in the fifth inning, and reached base three times to lead the Chanticleers (34-11), who won their fourth straight game.
Coastal used seven pitchers in a staff day, with
Scott Doran (1-0) earning the win after striking out the side in a crucial seventh-inning jam.
Luke Jones started and went three innings, allowing both UNCG (18-25) runs in the third.
The Chants took advantage of UNCG mistakes and free passes throughout the night, drawing six walks and getting hit by four pitches. They stole five bases, including one each from
Ty Dooley, Alexander,
Colby Thorndyke, and
Wells Sykes.
UNCG left 14 runners on base and hit into two double plays. The Spartans had runners in scoring position in each of the last five innings but failed to score after the third.
Coastal Carolina returns to Springs Brooks Stadium on Friday to start a seven-game homestand. First up will be three against App State, followed by a midweek against Clemson and then another Sun Belt Conference series against ULM.
