DELAND, Fla. — Sydney McClure scored six goals, including four in the fourth quarter, to lead Coastal Carolina past Stetson 14-7 on Saturday afternoon in ASUN women's lacrosse action.
McClure, a junior attacker, tallied a career-high six goals — three on free-position attempts — as the Chanticleers (5-7) pulled away late after taking a 9-6 lead into the final frame. Coastal closed the game on a 5-1 run to snap a five-game skid and jump the Hatters (5-7) in the league standings.
Coastal Carolina controlled the game early, jumping out to a 4-0 lead in the first quarter and carrying an 8-4 edge into halftime.
Maddie Bates and
Megan Hummel each added two goals, while six different players recorded assists.
McClure's outburst included the final three goals for Coastal in the last 10 minutes, helping seal the victory.
Charlotte Sadler anchored the Chants' defense with nine saves in goal, including four in the third quarter as Stetson pushed back. Kaitlin Pani led the Hatters with two goals, and Miya Scanlan contributed a goal and two assists.
Coastal outshot Stetson 30-24, held a 22-20 edge in ground balls and converted on 6 of 10 free-position attempts.
