BOONE, N.C. – The Coastal Carolina softball team suffered a come-from-behind 6-5 defeat in extra innings to the Appalachian State Mountaineers on Thursday afternoon in Boone, N.C.

After three scoreless innings, Delaney Keith put the Chanticleers on the board by belting her 18th home run of the season over the right-center field wall to make it 1-0. Freshman McKennah Metzger followed with a three-run homer over the right field wall to extend the lead to 4-0.

The Mountaineers clawed back with three runs in the bottom of the fourth inning on an RBI single by Marti Henkel and a two-run single from Taylor Chumbley, cutting the deficit to 4-3.

Coastal added an insurance run in the top of the sixth when Georgia Hood smashed the team's third home run of the game over the center field wall, pushing the lead to 5-3.

App State rallied in the bottom of the seventh, as Macy Hambly hit a two-out, two-run homer to tie the game at 5-5 and send it into extra innings.

Chumbley secured the win for the Mountaineers in the bottom of the eighth, singling up the middle to drive in Grace Barrett for the 6-5 victory.
