HAMPTON, Va. — No. 8 Coastal Carolina erupted for three runs in the top of the ninth inning to complete a 6-3 comeback win over Old Dominion on Friday night at War Memorial Stadium.
Tied 3-3 entering the final frame, the Chanticleers (42-11, 24-4 Sun Belt) capitalized on clutch hitting and a series of miscues to seize the lead.
Freddy Rodriguez, running for designated hitter
Chad Born, advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt and passed ball before
Ty Barrango delivered a full-count RBI single to center to put CCU ahead. The Chants added two insurance runs on a hit-by-pitch and bases-loaded walk.
The late surge backed a career-best outing from
Cameron Flukey, who struck out 11 over six innings. Coastal's bullpen shut the door with
Dominick Carbone (5-0) earning the win and
Ryan Lynch picking up his fifth save.
Walker Mitchell hit a game-tying two-run homer in the sixth — his fourth of the year — and finished with three RBIs to pace the Chanticleer offense, which managed just six hits but made them count.
Old Dominion (21-27, 15-13 Sun Belt) led 3-1 after three innings behind a two-run triple from Luke Waters, but mustered just one hit over the final six frames.
