DURHAM, N.C. – The Coastal Carolina softball team suffered a 6-3 loss to the Georgia Bulldogs in its first game of the Durham Regional on Friday afternoon.
 
The Chanticleers came out strong, as Delaney Keith laced a single through the right side to get on base in the top of the first inning. Georgia Hood followed with a two-run home run over the center-field wall to give Coastal a 2-0 lead. The inning continued when Keirstin Roose reached scoring position with a walk and a stolen base. Freshman McKennah Metzger then blooped a single into right field to drive in Roose, extending the Chanticleers' lead to 3-0.
 
Georgia responded in the bottom of the second inning, starting with back-to-back singles.  Emma Castorini drove in Georgia's first run on a fielder's choice, and Mya Williams followed with an RBI single through the left side. Lyndi Rae Davis capped off the inning with an RBI single of her own to tie the game at 3-3.
 
The Bulldogs carried the momentum into the third inning, scoring three runs on a Marisa Miller single and a Williams single to take a 6-3 lead.
 
Abby Henderson entered the circle in the bottom of the fourth and held Georgia scoreless for the final three frames, but the Chanticleers were unable to rally offensively.
 
Nicolette Picone fell to 28-10 in the circle, allowing six runs on eight hits over 3.0 innings of work.
 
Coastal Carolina will return to action in the double-elimination tournament tomorrow to take on the Howard Bison at 4 p.m. ET.
