Morrison & Schnall Take Individual League Honors

NEW ORLEANS — Jacob Morrison was named Sun Belt Conference Pitcher of the Year and Kevin Schnall earned the Ron Maestri Coach of the Year Award as the league announced its postseason honors Monday.

Additionally, Morrison, Cameron Flukey and Caden Bodine were named First-Team All-Sun Belt honorees while Dominick Carbone earned Second-Team All-Sun Belt accolades.

The ace of the Sun Belt's best pitching staff, Morrison dominated conference play with a 1.71 ERA and 8-0 record in 10 Sun Belt starts. Over 63.1 innings of league play, he struck out 65, walked just 10, and held opponents to a .163 average. His precision, poise and consistency led Coastal to a 25-4 league mark and the regular season team championship. Morrison also ranked top-5 nationally in WHIP and ERA across all games, finishing 10-0 overall with a 1.95 ERA and 81 strikeouts in 78.1 innings. He did not pitch in 2024 due to injury, started the season at Coastal's midweek starter and closed the regular season leading the league in pitching. He is semifinalist for the Dick Howser Trophy and Golden Spikes Award.

The offensive and defensive anchor for a 40-plus-win Coastal club which won the Sun Belt Regular Season Championship, Bodine ranked among the Sun Belt leaders in on-base percentage (.519) and finished second in batting average (.354) in league games. He tallied 34 hits, 12 doubles and 20 RBIs in Sun Belt action while committing zero errors behind the plate. Nationally, Bodine ranked among the NCAA leaders in walks and times on base. He threw out 64.3 percent of runners trying to steal against him and had a .998 fielding percentage.

Flukey went 4-1 in Sun Belt action with a 3.21 ERA, tossing a complete-game shutout and striking out 68 in just 53.1 innings. He induced a career-best 11 strikeouts in his final regular-season outing, a no-decision at Old Dominion. Overall, his 83 strikeouts topped the charts for Coastal, and he went 5-1 with a 3.47 era in 13 total starts, walking only 16 batters and holding opponents to a .216 batting average.

Carbone was one of the most dominant bullpen arms in the Sun Belt, going 5-0 with five saves and a 2.18 ERA over 33.0 innings in 21 total appearances. In conference play, he posted a 1.08 ERA with three wins and four saves across 11 appearances, striking out 23 and allowing just two earned runs in 16.2 innings. Carbone's power stuff and fearless approach in high-leverage moments made him Coastal's go-to arm at the back end of games.

Schnall led Coastal to a 44-11 overall record and 26-4 Sun Belt mark, capturing the regular-season conference title for the first time since 2023. Under his leadership, the Chants closed out the regular season as one of the hottest teams in college baseball with 14-straight overall wins, 18-straight league wins and six-consecutive Sun Belt weekend series sweeps. The team posted the league's top ERA (3.33), on-base percentage (.412), and fielding percentage (.976). Thanks to a retooled pitching staff, elite defense, and consistent offense Schnall's 44 victories were tops among first-year head coaches nationally.
