No. 19 Baseball Opens Series With 11-1 Win Over App State

CONWAY, S.C. — No. 19 Coastal Carolina rolled to an 11-1 run-rule victory over visiting App State in eight innings on Friday night at Springs Brooks Stadium, powered by a third-inning grand slam from Blagen Pado and a dominant start from Jacob Morrison.
Pado's blast broke the game open early, turning a 2-0 lead into a 6-0 advantage. It marked his second grand slam in less than a week after he cleared the bases in the 11th inning of last Saturday's win at James Madison.
Morrison (8-0) kept the Mountaineers quiet, striking out eight and allowing just three hits over seven shutout innings to remain unbeaten on the season. The Chanticleers (35-11, 18-4 Sun Belt) racked up 17 hits and scored in five of eight innings.
Walker Mitchell had two hits, two runs, and an RBI, while Caden Bodine went 3-for-5 and scored twice. Ty Barrango ended the night with a two-run single in the eighth to cap a four-run frame and end the game via the run rule.
App State (21-24, 11-11) managed just five hits and scored its lone run in the eighth off reliever Matt Joyce. Starting pitcher Caleb Cross (6-3) took the loss, surrendering six runs (five earned) over three innings.
The teams continue the series Saturday at Springs Brooks Stadium.

- Pado Power: Blagen Pado's grand slam in the third inning was his fourth home run of the season and second grand slam in six days. He finished the night 1-for-3 with two walks and four RBIs.
