Volleyball Wins Fifth Straight With Four-Set Triumph Over Utah Valley


RALEIGH, N.C. - Coastal Carolina earned its fifth consecutive win Saturday with a 3-1 (25-22, 25-27, 25-21, 26-24) victory over Utah Valley in its second game of the Wolfpack Invitational.
 
The Chanticleers improved to 6-2 overall, while the Wolverines dropped to 3-6 on the year.
 
Junior Jalyn Stout posted her second straight triple-double with 14 kills, 16 assists, and 14 digs. Ava Wallis finished with 21 assists and a career-best 16 digs. Bailee Earnhardt collected a match-high 17 digs. Emma Van Elslande finished one kill and one dig shy of her first double-double. 

The Wolverines, who ranked second nationally in total blocks, finished with 15.0. The Chanticleers recorded 13.0 blocks, led by Emily Fowler and Anna Rita with six each. Coastal out-hit UVU .137 to .132. 
 
QUICK SET SYNOPSIS 
• The Chanticleers ended the first set on a 7-4 run, getting a kill from Stout, Van Elslande, and Kibi Higgins, a block assist by Rita and Anzley Rinard, forcing a pair of Wolverine errors. CCU got out to 14-9, but Utah Valley rallied to tie the set at 18-all. 
• Utah Valley trailed 21-16, but outscored Coastal 11-4 to claim the second set 27-25. Avery Page and Alyssa Erickson recorded back-to-back kills to capture the set. 
• Coastal used a 6-0 to take a 12-9 lead in the third set on its way to a 25-21 victory. The Wolverines got within a point at 21-20, but the Chants didn't relinquish their advantage with Van Elslande closing the match with a service ace. She accumulated six of her nine kills in the frame. 
• CCU jumped out to a 9-2 lead in the fourth set, but the Wolverines went on a 15-4 run to take a four-point lead, 17-13. The Chants scored six straight points to go ahead 24-21, then forced two UVU attacking errors to win the set 26-24. 

NOTES & STATS
• The Chanticleers have won five consecutive non-conference matches, their longest such streak since 2019 when they opened the season 9-0, all against non-conference opponents.
• Coastal improved to 3-0 versus first-time opponents (Delaware State, Cleveland State, Utah Valley) and 5-0 versus non-Power 4 foes.
• Stout recorded her fourth triple-double of the season and 37th of her career. She also collected her 1,200 career assists and has 1,215 for her career.
• Becca Micelle collected seven digs to surpass the 300 mark for her career (302).
 
NEXT MATCH 
The Chanticleers will wrap up play at the Wolfpack Invitational on Sunday against NC State at 4 p.m. The match will be streamed on ACCNX.
