Women’s Soccer Edges East Carolina

CONWAY, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina women's soccer team picked up a 2-1 victory over East Carolina on Sunday afternoon at the CCU Soccer Complex.
  • With the win, Coastal improves to 3-3-0 on the season.
  • The Chants opened the scoring in the 29th minute when Eleanor Ashton found the bottom left corner on an assist from Stella Lawson.
  • Coastal doubled its lead in the 40th minute as Leah Crotty and Ashton combined to set up Marin Fisher for her first collegiate goal, putting CCU up 2-0.
  • At the half, Coastal led 7-0 in shots and 2-0 in corner kicks.
  • The Pirates cut the deficit to 2-1 in the 70th minute when Lily Ridge slotted the ball into the back of the net.
  • The Chants recorded a season-high seven points in the matchup, scoring multiple goals in a game for the first time this season.
  • Ashton paced the offense with four shots, helping Coastal outshoot the Pirates 11-5 on the day.
  • Sofia Gartner made her collegiate debut, playing the full 90 minutes.
The Chanticleers will now hit the road to open Sun Belt Conference play against the James Madison Dukes in Harrisonburg, Va., on Sept. 13 at 7 p.m. ET.
