Beadle Sparks Second-Half Rally As MBB Tops App State

CONWAY, S.C. Joshua Beadle poured in a career-high 25 points, and Coastal Carolina rallied from a 12-point second-half deficit to defeat App State 67-62 on Saturday afternoon at the HTC Center, snapping a three-game losing streak.

Coastal (9-9, 2-4 Sun Belt) fell behind by as many as 13 in the first half, 29-16, but closed the opening 20 minutes on a 10-3 run to trim the deficit to 32-26 at the break. The Mountaineers briefly rebuilt their double-digit lead early in the second half, pushing it to 40-28 before the Chanticleers began their comeback.

Beadle ignited the rally, bookending an 18-6 Coastal run with a pair of 3-pointers to knot the score at 46. AJ Dancler then knocked down a jumper with 9:17 remaining to give the Chanticleers a 50-48 edge, their first lead since the game's opening basket.

"Our guys have been in that situation before and responded the right way," Coastal head coach Justin Gray said. "We stayed disciplined to the game plan, shared the basketball, and had guys step up and make plays."

Beadle struck again from beyond the arc with 3:56 remaining to push Coastal in front 63-59. After App State (10-8, 3-3) pulled within 65-62 at the free-throw line with 56 seconds left, Reggie Hill answered with a driving layup with 27 seconds to play to seal the victory.

Hill finished with 11 points, while Rasheed Jones added 10 points, four assists, two steals and a block. Beadle also grabbed a team-high seven rebounds, matching his career high.

The Chanticleers shot 64% (16-of-25) from the field in the second half after shooting 37% in the opening half and finished the game at 50% (26-of-52). Coastal also limited App State to 36.2% shooting.

"We had a sense of urgency," Beadle said. "We've been in this situation before, but we showed a lot of resiliency today."

Coastal returns to action Wednesday, Jan. 14, when it travels to Marshall for a 7 p.m. tipoff at the Cam Henderson Center in Huntington, W.Va.
