HUNTINGTON, W.VA. — Coastal Carolina women's basketball (8-10, 1-5) lost to Marshall (15-3, 6-0) 80-74 on Saturday at the Cam Henderson Center. It was the Chanticleer's second loss to the Thundering Herd this season, with both games decided by six or less points.
GAME RECAP
Both teams got off to quick starts, with Marshall taking a 16-15 lead after the first quarter. The Chants had one of their highest scoring quarters of the season in the second, outscoring the Thundering Herd 31-25 and took a 46-41 lead to the half. Coastal entered the fourth with a 61-56 advantage, which was erased when Marshall knocked down a three-pointer to tie the game at 66 with 6:24 remaining. The Thundering Herd outscored the Chanticleers 14-8 the rest of the way to secure the 80-74 victory.
COASTAL LEADERS
Tessa Grady rattled off 20 points while shooting 64% from the field to lead the team.
Kinsea Grimes added 16 while
Tracey Hueston (11) and
Kristin Williams (10) also posted double-digit scoring performances
. Hueston also collected 10 rebounds for her third double-double of the season
. As a team, Coastal shot 46-percent from the field and 38-percent from long-range while making 16 of 20 free throw attempts.
