CONWAY, S.C. — Coastal Carolina will look to extend its winning streak to six games Thursday night when it travels to Mobile, Ala., for its lone regular-season meeting with South Alabama Jaguars at the Mitchell Center.
The Chanticleers enter the match-up just one game behind the Jaguars in the loss column of the Sun Belt Conference standings. Coastal is coming off an 85-67 win over Southern Miss on Saturday at the HTC Center, while South Alabama posted a 90-83 road victory at James Madison.
Coastal extended its winning streak to five games with the win over Southern Miss, matching the program record for consecutive Sun Belt victories.
Rasheed Jones led the Chants with 24 points, hitting a career-high seven 3-pointers, while
Joshua Beadle scored 22 and
AJ Dancler added 20. Coastal opened the game a perfect 9-of-9 from the field and built a 39-25 halftime lead before cruising to the 18-point win.
During the five-game streak, the Chanticleers have won four games decided by six points. Beadle has scored at least 18 points in six straight games, averaging 23.5 points per contest over that span, while Dancler has scored 20 or more points in each of Coastal's last three road games.
South Alabama enters the game with a 14-6 overall record and a 5-3 mark in league play, sitting among the Sun Belt's top four teams. The Jaguars are 5-2 at home this season, with their two losses coming by a combined four points. South Alabama ranks among the nation's leaders in field-goal percentage defense, holding opponents to 38.1 percent shooting, while also leading the league in offensive efficiency at 46.6 percent.
Chaze Harris ranks second in the Sun Belt at 18.0 points per game and is among the league leaders in assists and free-throw percentage, while Adam Olsen averages 16.5 points and shoots 38.4 percent from three-point range.
Coastal leads the all-time series 10-8 but is just 3-5 at the Mitchell Center. The Chanticleers are making their first regular-season visit to Mobile in five years and last played at South Alabama during The Basketball Classic in March 2022, a 69-68 Coastal win.
