CHAPEL HILL, N.C. — The Coastal Carolina softball team fell to the UNC Tar Heels on Wednesday evening in Chapel Hill, N.C.
With the loss, the Chants drop to 2-4 overall on the season.
After two scoreless innings, the Chants capitalized on a leadoff double by
Kelsey Sawvell.
Libby Pippin then drove her home with a two-run homer over the right-field wall to give CCU a 2-0 lead.
UNC responded with a two-run home run of its own in the bottom of the fourth inning, along with an RBI single, to take a 3-2 lead.
In the bottom of the fifth inning, Emily LeGette smashed a solo home run to right field to make the score 4-2.
The Tar Heels added four more runs in the bottom of the sixth inning, scoring on a single, a fielder's choice, a groundout, and a double to secure the 8-2 victory.
Abby Henderson fell to 0-2 in the circle, giving up three runs on three hits over 3.1 innings of work.
The Chants will remain on the road as they travel to Tucson, Ariz., for the Bear Down Fiesta, hosted by No. 17 Arizona. Creighton, Utah Valley, and Drake will also compete in the three-day event.
