TUCSON, Ariz. — The Coastal Carolina softball team excelled on day one of the Bear Down Fiesta, defeating Creighton 6-4 before upsetting No. 15 Arizona 6-2 in game two.
Game One: Coastal 6, Creighton 4
Second baseman
Moira Baxter hit her second home run of the season to give Coastal Carolina a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning.
The Chants extended their lead in the bottom of the third when
Georgia Hood and
Kaelin Cash hit back-to-back home runs, pushing the score to 4-0.
Creighton got on the board in the top of the fifth when Ella Dalton doubled up the middle, driving in a run to make it 4-1.
Coastal added two insurance runs in the bottom of the fifth.
Izzy Ramirez recorded her first collegiate RBI with a single, and
Clara Hudgens drove her home on a groundout, giving the Chants a 6-1 cushion.
The Blue Jays rallied in the top of the seventh, scoring on a sacrifice fly and a two-run single to close the gap to 6-4. With the bases loaded, Coastal escaped the jam to secure the final out and the win.
Savannah Jones (2-1) allowed three runs on seven hits over 6.1 innings to pick up the victory.

The Chants broke open the game in the top of the third inning, loading the bases on a
Delaney Keith double, a walk, and a hit by pitch.
Brie Normandin then laced a double down the right-field line to clear the bases and give Coastal a 3-0 lead.
Two more runs came in for the Chants in the top of the third courtesy of a
Kelsey Sawvell RBI single and a Baxter RBI double to extend the advantage to 5-0.
Arizona responded in the bottom of the fourth frame, scoring on a single and a groundout to narrow the gap to 5-2.
In the top of the sixth inning,
McKennah Metzger blooped an RBI single into center field to score pinch runner
Emma Skovran from third base and make the score 6-2.
Abby Henderson took care of business in the final inning to secure the win in the circle. The junior moves to 1-2 on the season, allowing two runs on three hits over a complete game.
The win marks CCU's 10th ranked victory in program history. The Chants now hold a 3-2 record versus ranked opponents across the 2025 and 2026 seasons.
