Chants Go 1-1 on Day One of Beach Chicken Brawl

CONWAY, S.C. — The Coastal Carolina softball team went 1-1 on day one of the Beach Chicken Brawl. The Chants fell to FAU 7-1 in game one before earning a 6-4 win over Saint Joseph's.
 
Game One: Coastal 1, FAU 7
 
It was a pitcher's duel through the first four innings, as neither team was able to break through. Coastal Carolina allowed just two hits while FAU limited the Chanticleers to one, keeping the game scoreless at 0-0.
 
Coastal struck first in the bottom of the fifth inning when Moira Baxter laced an RBI single to give CCU a 1-0 lead.
 
FAU responded in the top of the sixth, as Kylie Hammonds opened the frame with a leadoff home run to even the score at 1-1. The Owls capitalized on the momentum, plating five additional runs in the inning with the help of three Coastal errors and a groundout to surge ahead 6-1.
 
FAU tacked on one more run in the top of the seventh on a Karson Davey RBI single to seal the 7-1 victory.
 
Abby Henderson fell to 4-5 in the circle, allowing three runs on four hits over 5.0 innings of work.
 
Game Two: Coastal 6, Saint Joseph's 4
 
Saint Joseph's got on the scoreboard early in the top of the first inning, scoring on a groundout to take a 1-0 lead.
 
The Chants responded in the bottom of the third inning when Hannah Bendle belted a three-run home run over the center field wall to make the score 3-1.
 
In the bottom of the fourth frame, Coastal loaded the bases on back-to-back singles and a hit by pitch. Delaney Keith then blooped a single over the third baseman's head to drive in one run, and Georgia Hood followed with a sacrifice fly to extend Coastal's lead to 5-1.
 
Saint Joseph's cut the deficit to 5-4 in the top of the fifth inning when Julia Shearer cracked a three-run homer over the left-center field wall.
 
Coastal added an insurance run in the bottom of the fifth inning, scoring on a groundout to secure the 6-4 victory.
 
Reagan Troy earned her first win in the circle, allowing four runs on four hits over 4.1 innings of work, while Kate Ryan earned the save, pitching 2.2 scoreless innings.
