CONWAY, S.C. — The Coastal Carolina softball team leveled the series at 1-1 after earning a 3-2 victory over App State on Saturday afternoon.
The Mountaineers struck first in the top of the first inning when Makayla McLain crossed home plate on a sacrifice fly to give App State a 1-0 lead.
Coastal answered in the bottom of the frame when
Georgia Hood blasted her 11th home run of the season, driving in two runs to put CCU ahead 2-1.
McKennah Metzger dominated in the circle over the next four innings, recording two 1-2-3 frames while allowing just one hit and striking out three to keep the score at 2-1.
The Chants added an insurance run in the bottom of the fifth inning when
Libby Pippin hit a leadoff home run over the right-center field wall to extend Coastal's lead to 3-1.
App State rallied in the top of the seventh inning, narrowing the gap on a solo home run by Kendall Bradshaw, but the Chants secured the final outs to claim the 3-2 victory.
Metzger improved to 2-0 in the circle, giving up just two runs on three hits while recording a career-high four strikeouts over a complete game of work.
