HARRISONBURG, Va. – The Coastal Carolina softball team dropped the series finale 17-2 to the James Madison Dukes on Sunday afternoon in Harrisonburg, Va.
Delaney Keith gave the Chants an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning, blasting her first home run of the season over the right-center field wall.
The Dukes answered immediately with a five-run bottom of the first, highlighted by a leadoff home run from Kylee Gleason and a grand slam by Emma Jo Evans to take a 5-1 lead.
Coastal cut into the deficit in the second inning when
Kaelin Cash led off with a home run to make it 5-2.
James Madison continued to stay hot in the bottom of the second frame, recording a 10 run inning to give the Dukes a 15-2 advantage.
In the bottom of the third inning, Mia Tribul added an RBI single and Cali Legzdins recorded a sacrifice fly to cap the scoring and secure the 17-2 victory for the Dukes.
Abby Henderson took the loss, allowing five runs on two hits in one inning of work in the circle.
The Chants will return to Conway for an in-state matchup against Charleston Southern on March 24 at 4 p.m. ET.
