WILMINGTON, N.C. – The Coastal Carolina softball team suffered an 8-0 shutout loss to the UNCW Seahawks on Tuesday evening in Wilmington, N.C.
A seven-run third inning powered the Seahawks to their first win over the Chants since April 2, 2014.
UNCW's Becca Merrick opened the scoring with a two-run single, and Madison Biddle followed with a three-run home run to give the Seahawks a 5-0 lead. The runs continued to pile up as Carson Fleming and Peyton Carver each drove in a run on a double and a single, respectively, extending the lead to 7-0.
The Seahawks secured the run-rule victory in the bottom of the sixth inning with a bases-loaded walk to seal the 8-0 win.
Abby Henderson fell to 5-6 in the circle, allowing seven runs on nine hits over 2.2 innings of work.
