Chants Drop Series to Florida State

CONWAY, S.C. — The Coastal Carolina softball team fell to the Florida State Seminoles, 17-11, in game three of the series on Sunday afternoon.

Florida State got on the scoreboard in the opening inning when Bella Ruggiero lobbed an RBI double over Libby Pippins' head in right field, and Anna Hinde ripped a tough hop over Delaney Keith's glove to drive in another run and give the Seminoles a 2-0 lead.

The Chants responded in the bottom of the first inning when Keith laced a single past the second baseman, and Georgia Hood brought her home on her ninth home run of the season to level the score at 2-2.

The Seminoles pushed back in front in the top of the second inning, bringing in three runs on a CCU throwing error, a wild pitch, and an RBI single to make the score 5-2.

Coastal battled back in the bottom of the second when Hannah Bendle crossed home plate on an FSU throwing error, and Hood cleared the bases with a grand slam to give the Chants a 7-5 lead.

After two scoreless innings, Florida State regained the lead, scoring four runs on a two-run home run by Hinde, an Issa Torres RBI single, and a sacrifice fly to make the score 9-7.

Florida State added to its lead in the top of the sixth frame when Angelee Bueno cracked a two-run double to left field to give the Seminoles an 11-7 advantage.

The Chants continued to fight in the bottom of the sixth inning when pinch hitter Hope McDonald capitalized on a leadoff double by Clara Hudgens by hitting a double of her own to make the score 11-8. Keith then stepped up to the plate and delivered an RBI single to cut the deficit to 11-9.

Coastal continued to rally in the bottom of the sixth, bringing in two more runs on a Brie Normandin sacrifice fly and a Bendle single to level the score at 11-11.

In the top of the seventh inning, the Seminoles tacked on six runs on three walks, a wild pitch, a fielder's choice, and a single to take the 17-11 victory.

Mackenzie Childers dropped to 1-4 in the circle, allowing four runs on two hits.
