LAFAYETTE, La. – No. 20 Coastal Carolina dropped the regular-season finale of its Sun Belt Conference series at Louisiana, falling 3-2 on Saturday afternoon.
Trailing 1-0 in the fifth inning, the Chanticleers got on the board when Dean Mihos lined an RBI single to score Ty Barrango from second base and even the game at 1-1.
Louisiana answered with two runs in the bottom half of the inning to regain the lead at 3-1.
The Chanticleers continued to battle in the seventh inning as Mihos delivered again, ripping an RBI triple to score Barrango from first base and cut the deficit to 3-2. However, that would be as close as Coastal Carolina would come.
Mihos led the Chanticleer offense, finishing 2-for-4 with both of Coastal Carolina's RBIs. Barrango also scored both runs for the Chants.
On the mound, Ross Norman (6-5) was charged with the loss after allowing three runs on seven hits over 4.0 innings of work.
With the loss, Coastal Carolina closed the regular season with a 36-19 overall record and a 21-9 mark in Sun Belt Conference play.
The Chanticleers will enter next week's Sun Belt Baseball Championship as the tournament's No. 2 seed. Coastal Carolina will open tournament play on Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. ET on ESPN+ against an opponent still to be determined.
