STATESBORO, Ga. – Coastal Carolina split Sunday's Sun Belt Conference doubleheader at Georgia Southern, highlighted by a dominant Game 1 win that secured the Chanticleers' 16th consecutive conference series victory.
Coastal wasted no time asserting control in the opener, rolling to a 14-4 win in a shortened seven-inning contest to clinch the series.
The Chanticleers' offense erupted early and often, powered by standout performances from Dean Mihos, Rex Watson, and Jackson Winer. The trio each recorded three hits and combined for nine RBIs in the win. Winer led the charge with a career-high four RBIs, highlighted by his fourth home run of the season, while Mihos and Watson each added a pair of doubles.
Right-hander Ross Norman earned the win on the mound, improving to 6-3 on the year. Norman tossed 5.0 innings, allowing four runs on eight hits while striking out five and walking two.
In Game 2, Georgia Southern responded to salvage the split, jumping out early and maintaining control throughout.
Making his second consecutive start, junior ace Cameron Flukey took the ball for the Chanticleers. Flukey allowed six runs on four hits over 2.1 innings, walking one, hitting two batters, and striking out two.
Trailing early, Coastal looked to answer in the second inning when Blagen Pado connected for a solo home run, his fourth of the season, to get the Chanticleers on the board. However, the Eagles extended their lead to 7-1. The Chants would tack on three runs in the ninth inning but couldn't overcome the six-run deficit.
With the split, Coastal Carolina improves to 33-14 overall and 19-5 in Sun Belt Conference play.
The Chanticleers will return home to Springs Brooks Stadium on Tuesday to host Clemson. First pitch is set for 6 p.m. on ESPN+.
