Coastal Carolina Baseball Welcomes Bobby Austin as Director of Player Development

CONWAY, S.C. – Coastal Carolina head baseball coach Chris Lemonis has announced the hiring of Bobby Austin as the program's director of player development.

Austin arrives in Conway after spending the 2026 season as East Carolina's director of program development and camp coordinator. He brings experience in player development, scouting and analytics after stops at East Carolina, Mississippi State and USA Baseball.

"Bobby has a tremendous understanding of player development and the role analytics play in helping student-athletes reach their potential," Lemonis said. "Having worked alongside him previously, I've seen firsthand the value he brings to a program every day. His attention to detail and ability to turn information into player development will make him a tremendous asset to our staff."

At East Carolina, Austin managed internal team analytics, coordinated opponent scouting reports, oversaw data evaluation and directed the Pirates' baseball camps.

Prior to joining ECU, Austin spent six seasons at Mississippi State, where he progressed from graduate assistant to coordinator of player development. During his tenure in Starkville, he was part of the Bulldogs' 2021 NCAA National Championship staff and played an integral role in player development, scouting and analytics. Austin also worked alongside Lemonis throughout his time at Mississippi State.

"I'm incredibly grateful for the opportunity to join Coastal Carolina Baseball," Austin said. "Having previously worked with Coach Lemonis, I know the standard and expectations that exist within this program. I'm excited to get to work with our student-athletes and contribute in any way I can to help them develop and put our team in the best position to succeed."

In addition to his collegiate experience, Austin has worked with USA Baseball, serving as a bullpen coach for the Collegiate National Team in 2021 and as a task force coordinator in 2019.

Austin began his collegiate baseball career at NC State, where he served as a student assistant team manager for the Wolfpack from 2015-19.
