Student Assistant Coach • 1st Season at CCU
Coastal Carolina All-American and 2009 Big South Player of the Year David Anderson returned to the Chanticleer baseball program this year as a student assistant coach while completing his undergraduate degree in recreation and sport management.
Anderson played as an infielder, pitcher and designated hitter for the Chanticleers from 2005-2009. He earned third team All-American honors in 2009 from Collegiate Baseball, the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association, CollegeBaseballInsider.com and Ping! Baseball, as well as being the NCAA Conway Regional Co-MVP in 2008.
Nationally, Anderson ranked seventh in RBI (with a CCU-record 82) in 2009, 20th in home runs (21) in 2009, 21st in home runs (20) in 2008, 36th in slugging percentage (.732) in 2009 and 38th in walks (45) in 2009.
Anderson received several Big South honors including Big South Player of the Year in 2009, Big South Tournament MVP in 2009, first team All-Big South as a first baseman in 2009, first team All-Big South as a pitcher in 2007, second team All-Big South as a first baseman in 2008 and second team All-Big South as a designated hitter in 2007.
He led the Big South in home runs twice (21 in 2009 and 20 in 2008) and RBI once (82 in 2009), while leading the team in batting average (.377 in 2009), slugging percentage (.732 in 2009) and saves (10 in 2007).
In CCU[apos]s baseball career record book Anderson is first in home runs (50, second in Big South history), third in RBI (184, seventh in Big South history), third in total bases (438, ninth in Big South history), seventh in career saves (12), 11th in hits (241), 13th in games played (200), 14th in at-bats (702) and 16th in career runs scored (144).
Anderson, from Lexington (White Knoll HS), played two years in the Baltimore Orioles[apos] minor league system after college. He is married to the former Samantha Carver, who played basketball at Coastal Carolina.
