Michael McDonald is in his third year with the Chanticleer baseball program in 2019. He not only is the baseball video coordinator but is in charge of analytics.
McDonald got his start in collegiate baseball working one year as the director of baseball operations at Santa Clara University in 2016, after he began working in collegiate athletics at his alma mater, serving as an assistant director of facilities and operations at Coastal Carolina.
McDonald was the Coastal region supervisor for The Diamond Prospects for three years (2012-14).
While in college he worked for the Atlanta Braves (2006-09) doing pitching charts and video for the Myrtle Beach Pelicans for four years. After graduation, McDonald accepted an internship with Bill James and John Dewan's statistical analysis company Baseball Info Solutions where he watched Major League Baseball games and input data that was then outsourced to Major League Baseball Teams, sports agencies, baseball websites, and ESPN.
After finishing at Baseball Info Solutions, McDonald was a pro scout intern with the Toronto Blue Jays where he compiled video, pitch charts, spray charts, statistical analysis, accumulate scouting reports, evaluate prospects in the Eastern League (AA), as well as other duties assigned to him by the coaching, scouting, and player development staff.
McDonald was also an associate scout for the Atlanta Braves, Toronto Blue Jays and New York Mets. In 2012-13, McDonald was an assistant coach at the East Coast Pro Showcase.
McDonald is a 2008 graduate of Coastal Carolina University and he received his degree in interdisciplinary studies major with a focus in sport management.
