Former Chanticleer baseball player and volunteer assistant coach Chad Oxendine returned to his alma mater in the fall of 2017 and concluded his fifth season with the team in 2020-21. He was promoted to director of player development, operations and analytics in September 2020 after serving four years as the program's director of baseball operations. In the fall of 2019, he added the duties of overseeing the video and analytics area of the baseball staff.
Oxendine spent the 2012 season with the Chanticleer coaching staff as the volunteer assistant coach where he was a standout catcher with the Chants from 2001-04.
Before returning to Conway, Oxendine spent three seasons as an assistant coach at Longwood University.
In addition to his stints at Longwood and Coastal, Oxendine has held collegiate coaching positions at Richmond (2007-10), Alabama (2006-07), and UNC Wilmington (2005-06) in his 13 years as a collegiate coach.
Additionally, he was the owner and operator of the Coastal Carolina Baseball Academy in Myrtle Beach, S.C. (2011) and was a hitting coach for the Single-A Myrtle Beach Pelicans (then part of the Texas Rangers system) in 2011.
At Longwood, Oxendine was the Lancers' recruiting coordinator and hitting coach while working with both the program's infielders and catchers.
In 2016, the Lancers recorded their first 30-win campaign of their NCAA Division I era and finished tied for second in the Big South standings.
Oxendine tutored slugger Kyri Washington, who led the Big South with 15 home runs in 2015 and was later drafted by the Boston Red Sox, and oversaw the development of infielder Alex Lewis, who broke out in 2016 to become one of the top hitters in the Big South.
In his one season as a volunteer assistant at Coastal Carolina in 2012, the Chanticleers went 42-19, won the Big South regular-season title, swept its way through the conference tournament to win the championship, and earned an NCAA Regional berth.
Under his guidance, Rich Witten, who played both first and third base in 2012, was named first-team All-Big South.
Prior to his one season at his alma mater in 2012, Oxendine spent four seasons on the Richmond baseball staff, working primarily with the Spiders' catchers and baserunners.
Under his direction, Richmond catcher Chris Cowell was an All-Atlantic 10 selection in 2010 after hitting .311 with 17 home runs and 52 RBIs. On the bases, the Spiders finished in the top five in the Atlantic 10 in steals each of the last two seasons he was on staff, swiping 88 in 2009 and 75 in 2010. The 2009 season also saw then-freshman Adam McConnell lead all NCAA rookies with his 31 steals.
Oxendine spent 2007 as a volunteer assistant at the University of Alabama, after working at UNC Wilmington during the 2006 season when the Seahawks posted a 42-22 overall record, won a Colonial Athletic Association title, and played in an NCAA Regional.
Oxendine played four years at Coastal Carolina and led the Chanticleers to four-straight Big South Conference titles and NCAA Regional berths from 2001-04. A co-captain his junior and senior years, he was named second-team All-Big South as a senior and was also voted to the Big South All-Tournament team that year.
Following his collegiate career, Oxendine signed as a free agent with the Chicago White Sox, where he spent one season with the Bristol (Va.) White Sox in the short-season Appalachian League.
A native of Rowland, N.C., Oxendine received his bachelor's degree from Coastal Carolina in 2004 in physical education.
He and his wife, Adrienne, reside in Myrtle Beach.
