Barry Lippman, who has been at Coastal Carolina University since 2006, was promoted to director of athletic training in January 2020.
Joining the Chanticleer athletic training department in 2006 as an assistant athletic trainer, he most recently served as the associate athletic trainer and rehab coordinator where he provided direct athletic training support for the university's baseball and Olympic sports programs and served as the rehabilitation coordinator for more than 425 Chanticleer student-athletes.
In his current role, Lippman supervises the entire sports performance and athletic training departments, while continuing to work directly with the baseball program and oversees the rehabilitation programs for all 400-plus Chanticleer student-athletes.
He is also in charge in overseeing the COVID-19 protocols, guidelines, and testing in regards put forth by the NCAA and the Sun Belt Conference.
Lippman is a certified member of the National Athletic Trainers' Association and Mid Atlantic Athletic Trainers' Association. He also holds current certification from the S.C. Department of Health and Environmental Control.
He is also an adjunct instructor in the university's Department of Kinesiology, Recreation and Sports Studies, where he teaches in the Physically Active Living Skills (PALS) program.
He was the head men's athletic trainer at UNC Wilmington from 2005-06 and directly handled the baseball and women's soccer teams. Prior to his tenure at UNCW, Lippman worked with the National Football League's Detroit Lions from June 2004 to January 2005, providing daily medical coverage for players.
Lippman earned a master's degree in sports medicine from Georgia Tech in 2004. While there, he was a graduate assistant athletic trainer for the football, baseball, and men's and women's tennis teams, including programs that went to the 2002 Silicon Valley Classic Bowl, 2003 Humanitarian Bowl, and 2004 NCAA Baseball Super Regional.
Lippman earned a bachelor's degree in exercise science from Florida State University in 2001. As a student assistant trainer and head student athletic trainer, he worked with the nationally ranked football and baseball programs at FSU.
