Walter Goffigan was named the assistant director of student-athlete enrichment at Coastal Carolina University in 2017. He had served as an associate director of student-athlete support services since 2010 and as a student-athlete academic advisor at the university since 2006.

Goffigan was the program director for diversity and life skills education at Kansas State University from 2003-06. He also served as director of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC).

While working toward completion of a master's degree in sports administration from Florida State University, he served as an academic counselor for the football program from 2000-03 and assisted with the NCAA Life Skills program.

From 1997-2000, he served as an academic advisor at the University of Wyoming, in the College of Arts and Sciences for one year and the athletic department for two years.

He played football at the University of Wyoming from 1980-84. As a four-year starter at running back, he set the school record for career rushing yards, while earning All-Western Athletic Conference honors three times and Sporting News second-team All-American honors once. He earned his bachelor's degree in liberal arts from the University of Wyoming in 1997.

He also served as a volunteer coach at Wyoming and Laramie High School in Wyoming. During the last 20 years, he has been involved with numerous community service projects, including advising the Fellowship of Christian Athletes at Coastal for seven years.

Goffigan is originally from Virginia Beach, Va. He is married to Kelli and has four children: Ryan, Joshua, Alyssa, and Spencer.
