Coastal Carolina head baseball coach Gary Gilmore named Zach Weisz the Director of Baseball Operations in August 2022.
At CCU, Weisz will be in charge of team travel and logistics, as well as working with the coaching staff on recruiting travel and on-campus recruiting.
Weisz came to Coastal after two years as a graduate assistant at his alma mater Cal State Fullerton.
A familiar name to Chanticleer fans, Weisz’s brother Keaton Weisz played at Coastal from 2017-19. Zach, Keaton, and their brother Chandler are triplets.
“We are extremely excited to add Zach Weisz to our CCU baseball staff. He brings a wealth of knowledge and playing experience to our program from Cal State Fullerton where he spent five years as a player and coach,” commented Gilmore. “He is extremely organized, personable, and relentless in his job duties. His addition to Coastal Carolina baseball has made us all better. Go Chants!”
As a graduate assistant at Cal State Fullerton, Weisz assisted the coaching staff with the development of the outfielders, threw batting practice for practices and games, and assisted hitters in the batting cages. He also analyzed Synergy video and data on opposing pitchers and position players in preparation for games.
In addition to his two years as a graduate assistant, Weisz also coached the OC Premier Travel Baseball Team from 2021-22 and worked as a coach at several youth and prospect camps hosted by Cal State Fullerton.
Weisz played at Cal State Fullerton from 2015-18 and again in 2020, playing in 58 games overall for the Titans. Cal State Fullerton reached the NCAA Regionals three times from 2016-18, playing in the Mississippi State Regional in 2016 and the Stanford Regional in both 2017 and 2018. During that span, the Titans also played in the 2017 Long Beach State Super Regional, hosted a Super Regional in 2018, and reached the College World Series in 2017.
In 2019, Weisz transferred to Hope International University in Fullerton, Calif., where he hit .339 with 56 base hits, 23 RBIs, 35 runs scored, and 13 stolen bases. The Royals went 33-21 overall on the season and won the 2019 GSAC Tournament Championship title.
Following his one season at Hope International, Weisz transferred back to Cal State Fullerton where he was elected as a team captain for the 2020 season, which ultimately was cut short due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Weisz graduated with his bachelor’s degree in American Studies from Cal State Fullerton in December 2019 and went on to earn his master’s degree in History from Cal State Fullerton in May 2022.
Originally from San Diego, Calif., Weisz lettered in baseball at La Jolla Country Day High School.
A triplet, Weisz and his two brothers all played NCAA Division I baseball - Zach at Cal State Fullerton, Chandler at St. Mary's College, and Keaton at both Auburn and Coastal Carolina. His half-brother, Alfonso Rivas, also played Division 1 baseball at Arizona and currently plays in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the Chicago Cubs.
