Elwyn McRoy enters his third season as an assistant basketball coach for the Chanticleers.

He has been a main reason the Chanticleers have brought in two successful recruiting classes under his tutelage.

On the court, McRoy assists with film study and working with the Chanticleers big men.

He joined the staff after serving as the recruiting coordinator at Washington State for two seasons. He led the day-to-day organization of the staff’s recruiting efforts.

A 1997 Cleveland State graduate, McRoy also spent two years at Coppin State in Baltimore, Md., before moving to the state of Washington. He served as Coppin State’s associate head coach for the 2015-16 season.

He also has Division I experience at Iowa State, Southern University and Texas-Pan American. McRoy comes to Coastal with previous experience in the Sun Belt Conference as well, having served two seasons as an assistant coach at Georgia Southern and another two years at Arkansas State.

Nationally known for his recruiting prowess, McRoy was named the number two recruiting coach in the WAC in 2014. In 2009, he was ranked the 23rd overall assistant coach by College Insider Sports and has served on the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) assistant coaches committee as the Sun Belt representative.

Prior to his move into Division I basketball, McRoy spent his first six seasons as an assistant coach in junior college. He coached three junior college all-Americans and also coached five conference players of the year.

As part of his basketball playing experience, he spent one season playing for the Washington Generals, the hapless opponent of the Harlem Globetrotters.

McRoy and his wife Carmen are the proud parents to daughters Kenya, Kyliah, Kyndall and Kamdyn and a son Jaden James.
