Sam Harned

Sam Harned recently completed his second season as an assistant coach with the Coastal Carolina men's golf program, helping guide the Chanticleers to consecutive appearances in the Sun Belt Conference Championship match and NCAA postseason qualifiers during his first two years on staff.

In 2025-26, Harned helped Coastal Carolina earn the No. 1 seed for match play at the Sun Belt Conference Championship after the Chanticleers finished atop the 54-hole stroke-play leaderboard at 14-under par. Coastal advanced to the championship match and finished as the conference runner-up.

The Chanticleers placed three golfers on the 2026 All-Sun Belt Conference Team, highlighted by first-team selection Max Bengtsson, while Jack Lee and Drew Sykes earned second-team honors. Bengtsson captured individual medalist honors at the Sun Belt Conference Championship and later tied for 28th place at 2-under par at the NCAA Athens Regional. Sykes also earned an individual selection to the NCAA Athens Regional field.

In his first season on staff in 2024-25, Harned helped Coastal Carolina capture the Sun Belt Conference championship and earn the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Regional Championships, marking the program's first NCAA Regional appearance since 2018.

Harned assisted in the development of 2025 Sun Belt Conference Men's Golf Newcomer of the Year Max Bengtsson, who earned second-team All-Sun Belt honors, while Sykes garnered third-team all-conference recognition.

The Chanticleers recorded three top-five finishes during the regular season before claiming the top seed for match play at the Sun Belt Conference Championship and securing the program's second conference title.

Harned embarked on a professional playing career before beginning his coaching career alongside his former college coach, Jacob Wilner, at Coastal Carolina.

Harned played four seasons at Nevada from 2017-21 under Wilner and served as team captain from 2019-21. He competed in three NCAA Regionals with the Wolf Pack and earned All-Mountain West honors twice.

As a professional, Harned won the 2024 Laramie Open Championship at 8-under par and the 2024 Redding Pro-Am at 17-under par. He also tied for fourth at the 2024 Wyoming Open at 12-under par.

In 2023, Harned was a conditional member of the Korn Ferry Tour and was a member of the Canadian Tour in 2021.

During his collegiate career, Harned captured individual titles at the 2020 Goodwin Classic, hosted by Stanford, and the 2019 Badger Invitational, hosted by Wisconsin.

Harned graduated from Nevada in 2021 with a bachelor's degree in general business and marketing.
