Bret Mollon enters his third season on the Coastal Carolina men's and women's soccer staff in 2015. Mollon serves as the goalkeeping coach for both the Chanticleer men's and women's programs.
In his two years as an assistant with the women's soccer program, Mollon helped the goalkeepers establish new school records for shutouts and fewest goals allowed in a single season.
In three seasons as the assistant goalkeeper coach for the men's squad, the Chanticleers made the NCAA Championship Tournament three times and were ranked as high as fourth in the country during the 2015 campaign, the highest ranking in school history.
In 2014 the men's team finished 16-6-1, captured the Big South Tournament championship title and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament. Individually, Mollon guided Devin Cook-Perales to All-Big South honorable mention honors, as the junior finished the season with a 0.94 goals-against average and six solo shutouts in 19 games played.
In addition to the Cook-Perales' shutouts, Mark Petrus also scored two clean sheets and the pair combined for another.
Following the 2014 season, Cook-Perales elected to forgo his senior year and sign professionally with the USL's Austin Aztecs. In two seasons under Mollon, Cook-Perales compiled a 30-10-1 record and a Coastal Carolina all-time best 18.1 shutouts. Cook-Perales' career goals-against average of 0.86 ranked second on the CCU all-time list.
In 2013, Mollon helped the men's program to an NCAA-best 19 wins along with the Big South regular-season and tournament titles. Additionally, the Chanticleers advanced to the NCAA Tournament Round of 16 after posting shutout victories in the tournament's first two rounds. Mollon aided goalkeeper Devin Cook-Perales to a stellar 2013 season that culminated with first-team All-Big South honors. Cook posted an 18-5-0 record and a 0.80 goals-against average in 2,129 minutes between the posts. Cook set the Coastal Carolina single-season record with 12 shutouts, while also setting the single-season record for matches started (23).
Cook ended the campaign ranked 32nd in the NCAA with a 0.80 goals-against average while leading Coastal to a 0.50 shutout percentage which ranked 11th-best in the nation. Cook was named to the College Soccer News National Team of the Week and the Big South Conference Defensive Player of the Week following his four-save effort in Coastal's 1-0 win at No. 5 VCU.
Mollon came to Coastal after spending the previous three seasons playing professionally in the Premier Development League and National Premier Soccer League. Mollon's PDL career was highlighted by a PDL Championship, as an amateur, with the Michigan Bucks in 2006. Most recently, Mollon was in preseason camp with the PDL's Harrisburg City Islanders.
Mollon received his introduction to coaching as a camp assistant at the Oakland University and Temple University soccer camps. He also spent time on the staff at the Vardar soccer camps.
Mollon was a standout student-athlete at Temple from 2008-10. He was a two-time Philadelphia Soccer Six All-Star and served as team captain as a senior. He set the Owls all-time single-season shutout mark with nine clean sheets in 2009. He also left Temple as the program's leader with a 0.80 career goals-against average. In addition, Mollon ranks second all-time in Temple history with 25 career wins to go along with his 21 career shutouts.
Mollon started his intercollegiate career at Oakland University where was named to the Summit League All-Academic team as a freshman. Mollon, a Washington, Mich. native, earned a bachelor's degree in kinesiology from Temple in 2012.
