Kate Refsnyder enters herthird season as assistant softball coach at Coastal Carolina University.

Refsnyder serves as the pitching coach for the Chanticleers.

During the 2011 season the Chanticleers led the conference in batters struck out with 290 and batters struck out looking with 86. Ashley Bagwell finished the season ranked 90th in the nation in strikeouts (172) and she led the Big South Conference in batters struck out.Bagwell was second in the league in batters struck out looking (43).

In her second season with the Chantsher knowledge of pitching helped the program to its best finish since 2006. In her first season, she improved the records of the pitching staff as a whole and helped Katelin Edwards throw two no-hitters on the season. She also had an ESPN The Magazine Academic-All District first team honoree in Ashley Frederick.

Refsnyder came to Coastal Carolina from Albright College in Reading, Pa., where she served as the head coach for the 2008-09 season, as well as working as an admission counselor. While at Albright, she was responsible for all aspects of the Division III program, including recruiting, budgeting, and player development. Under her direction, the Lady Lions increased their team GPA from 3.0 to 3.2 and had four players selected to Middle Atlantic States Collegiate Athletic Corporation Academic Honor Roll.

Prior to Albright, Refsnyder served as the assistant coach at Indiana University of Pennsylvania for the 2007-08 season under new Coastal Carolina assistant Ali Ferrari. At IUP, she was responsible for the development of pitchers and outfielders, and helped freshman pitcher earn 2008 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference West Rookie of the Year.

Before working at IUP, Refsnyder was the head coach at Archbishop John Carroll High School located in Radnor, Pa., in 2007. Under her direction, the team improved to a 20-5 record from a 13-9 record the year before and finished the season ranked fourth in Delaware County.

She was a graduate assistant at East Stroudsburg University in 2005-2006, where she assisted with recruiting, camps, and the development of pitchers and middle infielders. In her season with ESU, the Warriors earned an NCAA Regional berth for the first time since 1982 and its first Regional playoff win in school history.

Refsnyder played Division I softball for four seasons at Wagner College, where she pitched and played second and third base for the Seahawks. She was selected Second Team All-Northeast Conference Utility Player in 2005.

Refsnyder earned her bachelor[apos]s degree in business administration with a concentration in marketing from Wagner College in 2005. She completed her master[apos]s from East Stroudsburg in 2006 in sport management.
