Coastal Carolina alumna AJ Jordan was named a women's basketball assistant coach on July 17, 2017.  Jordan was a standout player on the women’s basketball team from 2011-15.
In her three seasons at Coastal Carolina, Jordan has helped build the Coastal Carolina program until a Sun Belt Championship contender and lead the Chanticleers to consecutive historic seasons over the last two years.
The 2019-20 season ended with a program-record 25 victories with an overall record of 25-4 and a Sun Belt record of 15-3. The Chanticleers had the Sun Belt’s leading scorer in senior DJ Williams, who was also the Sun Belt Conference Player of the Year and first-team All-Sun Belt. Naheria Hamilton was named the Sun Belt’s Defensive Player of the Year and second-team All-Sun Belt. Sophomore Aja Blount was also named second-team All-Sun Belt. As a team, the Chants were second in the Sun Belt in scoring (78.2 ppg) and defense (61.7 ppg) and ranked tops in the conference with a +16.52 scoring margin.  Coastal Carolina led the Sun Belt Conference in four team statistical categories and ranked second in nine other categories.
In Jordan’s second season at Coastal, the 2018-19 team made the program’s first-ever postseason appearance after accepting an invitation to play in the 2019 Women's Basketball Invitational (WBI). Coastal also reached the quarterfinals of the Sun Belt Championship for the second-straight season after hosting its first-ever Sun Belt Championship Tournament game at the HTC Center, a 63-49 win over ninth-seeded Arkansas State.
In Jordan’s first season as an assistant coach at her alma mater in 2017-18, the Chanticleers finished the season with the most overall wins since 2009-10 as the Chants went 17-14. Coastal's seventh-place finish in the Sun Belt with a 10-8 conference record was also its best in its two years in the league while the program won its first-ever Sun Belt Championship game over Georgia State in the 2018 conference championship tournament in New Orleans, La. Coastal’s offense and defense both ranked in the top half of the Sun Belt and boasted the Sun Belt's leading scorer as senior guard Jas Adams averaged over 18 points per game. Adams, who became the first student-athlete in program history to earn first-team All-Sun Belt honors, was the first Chant to lead a conference in scoring since Jordan accomplished the feat herself as a senior in the Big South Conference in 2014-15.
Jordan returned to Coastal Carolina after one year as a women’s basketball assistant coach at Pensacola State College, a NJCAA institution in Pensacola, Fla. Jordan helped guide the Lady Pirates to an 18-10 overall record in 2016-17. Jordan was also instrumental in the development of Nia Johnson and Ahyiona Vason, who were both voted first-team All-Panhandle Conference selections.
After graduating from Coastal, Jordan was an assistant women’s basketball coach at Virginia Wesleyan for the 2015-16 season. The Marlins finished the year at 9-17 overall and advanced to the quarterfinals of the Old Dominion Athletic Conference Tournament.
Jordan played four seasons for the Chants from 2011-15, amassing 1,441 points to finish her career ranked sixth among Coastal’s all-time leading scorers. She also finished amongst the school’s top 10 student-athletes in scoring average (eighth), field goals made (third), field goals attempted (third), free throws made (eighth), free throw percentage (sixth), and is the school’s all-time leader in games played with 118.
As a senior in 2014-15, Jordan led the Big South Conference averaging 16.9 points per game while making a league-high 207 shots from the field. She also set the HTC Center’s women’s basketball scoring record at the time with 36 points against Presbyterian.
Jordan was twice voted first-team All-Big South and was a three-time member of the Big South All-Academic team.
