Steve Loeswick enters his fourth season as head coach of the Coastal Carolina volleyball program in 2026 after guiding the Chanticleers to sustained success in the Sun Belt Conference during his first three seasons at the helm.
Since taking over the program as interim head coach 10 matches into the 2023 season following the unexpected retirement of longtime head coach Jozef Forman, Loeswick has compiled a 47-33 overall record and a 31-17 mark in Sun Belt Conference play. He was officially named head coach in January 2024 after leading Coastal Carolina to the 2023 Sun Belt Conference regular-season and tournament championships and the program's first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2017.
Loeswick earned both Sun Belt Conference Coach of the Year and AVCA Southeast Region Coach of the Year honors in 2023 after guiding the Chanticleers to a 22-10 overall record and a 14-2 conference mark.
The Chanticleers posted an 18-11 overall record and a 10-6 Sun Belt mark in 2025, finishing second in the East Division. Jalyn Stout earned First Team All-Sun Belt Conference honors for the third consecutive season and was named AVCA All-Southeast Region for the third straight year, while Emily Fowler and Anna Rita garnered second-team all-conference recognition.
Under Loeswick's guidance, Coastal has produced four First Team All-Sun Belt Conference selections and three second-team honorees. Stout has earned three First Team All-Sun Belt selections and three AVCA All-Southeast Region honors, while Jasmine Rivest was named the 2023 Sun Belt Offensive Player of the Year, earned AVCA All-Southeast Region recognition, and received AVCA Honorable Mention All-America accolades. Stout was also selected as the Sun Belt Conference Freshman of the Year in 2023.
Entering the 2026 season, Loeswick owns a 148-128 career record in nine seasons as a collegiate head coach, including a 97-94 mark at North Florida and a 51-34 record at Coastal Carolina.
Loeswick joined the CCU athletics program as head beach volleyball coach and a member of the indoor volleyball coaching staff in 2020. In addition to his success with the indoor program, he compiled a 74-52 record in six seasons as Coastal Carolina's head beach volleyball coach from 2018-23.
Prior to Coastal Carolina, Loeswick served as head coach at North Florida from 2012-17, compiling a 97-94 overall record and leading the Ospreys to their first ASUN Conference championship match appearance. He guided several student-athletes to all-conference and individual honors, including two ASUN Freshman of the Year recipients, a Libero of the Year, and a Defensive Player of the Year.
Before becoming a head coach, Loeswick spent 14 seasons as an assistant coach at LSU, Oklahoma, and Cornell. During those stops, he helped his programs combine for more than 200 victories, multiple conference championships, four consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances at LSU, and an NCAA Sweet 16 appearance at Oklahoma while coaching numerous all-conference, all-region, and All-America performers.
Loeswick played collegiately at Southern California, where he was a four-year starting setter for the Trojans and became just the third player in program history to start at the same position throughout all four seasons of his career. Following his collegiate playing career, he competed professionally in Germany's top volleyball league.
Loeswick earned a bachelor's degree in exercise science from USC in 1996. A native of North Tonawanda, N.Y., he married the former Jennifer Arbuckle on June 17, 2006. Jennifer was a standout outside hitter at Virginia Tech from 1992-95.
The Loeswicks have three children — daughters Isabella Rose and Lillian Ann and son Steven Jacob. Isabella is a member of the Coastal Carolina volleyball program and enters her sophomore season in 2026.
