Coastal Carolina head lacrosse coach Kristen Selvage announced the addition of Katie Frederick as an assistant coach in August of 2016.

Frederick came to Coastal after being a four-year letterwinner at Ohio State while serving as the Buckeyes’ captain and starting goalkeeper her senior season.

The 2020 season was unprecedented, as the Chanticleers saw their season cut short due to the coronavirus pandemic on March 16th.

Coastal, who did not even play a game at home prior to the season's cancelation, went 2-3 on the year over a season-opening road trip that saw games at Old Dominion, Campbell, Temple, and nationally-ranked Colorado and Denver.

Frederick helped first-year starter Regan McComb post a 13.00 goals-against average on the season, which ranked second in the ASUN among all goalkeepers, and finish second in the league in both saves with 55 and saves percentage at 45.8 percent on the year.

The Chants had three players named to the ASUN all-conference preseason team, including defenders Emily D'Orsaneo and Megan Kilpatrick.

In 2019, Frederick guided senior goalkeeper Harley Barrett to her second-straight ASUN Defensive Player of the Year Award and third-straight ASUN first-team all-conference selection.

Defensive players Kilpatrick and D’Orsaneo were both named to the all-conference first team as well, marking the second consecutive year that the pair earned postseason all-conference accolades.

Barrett finished her career atop of several Coastal records with 34 career wins, 3000:06 minutes played, 487 saves, 10.14 goals-against average, and a .490 save percentage.

In 2019, the Chants also led the ASUN in save percentage at 48.7 for the second-straight season.

In 2018,  Barrett was tabbed the 2018 ASUN Defensive Player of the Year and earned first-team all-conference accolades, the first of two-straight seasons. Kilpatrick also received ASUN first-team recognition while D’Orsaneo picked up a second-team all-conference selection as a defender. As a team defensively, Coastal led the conference in both saves with 180 and a save percentage at .469.

Frederick took over the defensive calls early in the 2017 campaign resulting in Coastal’s best single-season for saves (173), saves per game (9.11), and saves percentage (.506). Frederick coached goalkeeper Barrett to the 2017 ASUN all-conference first team. Defender Caroline Williams received second-team honors, while D’Orsaneo was named to the ASUN All-Freshman Team.

Over her senior season in 2016, Frederick led Ohio State to a school-record 11-1 start while reeling off a school-record nine-straight wins. The Buckeyes reached a program-best No. 8 in the national polls before finishing the season with an 11-6 mark.

Frederick started all 17 games in goal for OSU in 2016. She registered 108 saves and her 6.35 saves per game ranked as the third-best in the Big 10 Conference. Frederick was tabbed both Inside Lacrosse National and Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week. She made a career-high 14 saves and had a save percentage of 67 percent in Ohio State’s 8-7 win over No. 18 John’s Hopkins.

The Yorktown, N.Y., native helped Ohio State win 45 games, the program’s best total over a four-year period.

In addition to her playing career, Frederick has worked on the camp staff at North Carolina, Navy, University of Findlay, and Ohio State and she coached for the House of Sports, Yorktown Bombers, Midwestern Force, and XTeam lacrosse clubs.

A three-time Academic All-Big Ten selection (2014, 2015, and 2016), Frederick graduated from Ohio State in the spring of 2016 with a bachelor’s degree in human development and family science.
