Mason Portalski 2021 HS

Mason Portalski

Mason Portalski joined the Coastal Carolina women's soccer coaching staff as an assistant coach in January 2021. He works with the goalkeepers.

In his first few months on the job in 2021, the Chanticleers played four matches which included bouts against nationally-ranked Duke (March 17) and South Carolina (March 21). However, over the four-match span, the Chants picked up a 1-0 shutout win over the College of Charleston, which saw sophomore goalkeeper Ky Hudson make five saves.

Hudson would also go on to make nine saves in the loss at No. 5 Duke and a career-high 11 stops on the road at No. 10 South Carolina.

Portalski came to Coastal after spending two seasons as an assistant coach on the University of Northern Colorado women’s soccer coaching staff.

While the Bears’ 2020 fall season was canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic, UNC won the Big Sky Tournament and advanced to the NCAA Tournament in 2019, his first season on staff. Portalski helped coach four All-Big Sky selections and three honorable mention honorees, including the co-Defensive MVP Maddie Barkow.

Prior to his stop at UNC, Portalski was a graduate assistant coach at Western Illinois University from 2017-19 where he primarily worked with goalkeepers.

He also spent the summer of 2018 in Houston, Texas as an assistant coach with the TTI Bluebonnets of the WPSL which finished the season as the South Texas Conference Champions and made it to the National Round of 16.

Portalski earned his bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology at Washington State University in 2017 where he was a volunteer with the women’s soccer program. He went on to get his master’s degree in sport management at Western Illinois in 2019.

He played collegiately at Whittier College in Whittier, Calif., where he was a goalkeeper for the men’s team from 2012-13.

He currently holds his United Soccer Coaches National Diploma, Levels 1 & 2 Goalkeeping Diploma’s, and his USSF E license.
