Chad Oxendine enters the 2026 season in his second year back at Coastal Carolina and his second season as associate head coach and recruiting coordinator for the Chanticleers, continuing a career that has been closely tied to the program as both a player and coach.
A former Chanticleer standout, Oxendine returned to his alma mater prior to the 2025 season after serving three seasons as head coach at Longwood. He previously worked on the Coastal Carolina staff as director of baseball operations before being promoted to director of player development, operations, and analytics, playing a key role in the program’s success during its early years in the Sun Belt Conference.
In his first season back in Conway in 2025, Oxendine was part of one of the most historic campaigns in program history. The Chanticleers posted a school-record and nation-leading 56 wins, captured Sun Belt Conference regular-season and tournament championships, won the Conway Regional and Auburn Super Regional, and advanced to the Men’s College World Series Finals. Coastal Carolina put together a 26-game winning streak during its historic 2025 season, a stretch that carried the Chanticleers to the Men’s College World Series Finals.
Oxendine brings head coaching experience to the Coastal Carolina staff after leading Longwood for three seasons, during which he guided the Lancers to at least 20 wins each year. His 66 wins as head coach marked the program’s highest three-year total since the 2016–18 stretch. While in Farmville, Oxendine also served as Longwood’s hitting and infield coach and recruiting coordinator, mentoring several of the top players in the program’s Division I era, including Major League Baseball Draft picks Kyri Washington and Michael Osinski, while helping recruit future standouts such as Hunter Gilliam, Jack Schnell, and Antwaun Tucker.
During his earlier stint at Coastal Carolina, Oxendine contributed to Sun Belt Conference Tournament championships in 2018 and 2019, both of which resulted in NCAA Regional appearances. Over his four seasons on staff during that period, the Chanticleers posted a combined 117–74 overall record and established themselves as one of the league’s top programs during the transition into the Sun Belt.
Oxendine’s coaching résumé also includes professional and collegiate experience as a hitting and infield instructor. He spent the 2011 season as the hitting coach for the Myrtle Beach Pelicans, a High-A affiliate of the Texas Rangers, and served as an assistant coach at Richmond from 2008–10 following volunteer assistant roles at Alabama and UNC Wilmington.
As a player, Oxendine was a decorated catcher for the Chanticleers from 2001–04, helping Coastal Carolina capture four consecutive Big South Conference championships and advance to the NCAA Tournament each season. He earned All-Big South second-team and All-Big South Tournament honors as a senior and finished his career with a .281 batting average over 198 games. Following his collegiate career, he played professionally in the Chicago White Sox organization.
A native of Rowland, N.C., Oxendine earned his bachelor’s degree in physical education from Coastal Carolina University. He and his wife, Adrienne, have two sons, CJ and Gavyn, and two daughters, Madison and Blakely.
