  • Title
    Volunteer Assistant for Player Development
Craig Rotruck joined Coastal Carolina Chanticleer Baseball support staff as the Volunteer Assistant for Player Development. He is grateful to Head Coach Kevin Schnall for allowing him to join the already very talented and knowledgeable coaching staff.

Rotruck was a 1992-1994 baseball coaching staff member at WVU Potomac State College NJCAA. He worked as an assistant coach with pitchers, catchers, and hitters and became the Head Coach in the Spring of 1995.

As Head Coach from 1995 to 1998, he had a 113-26 record and led the Catamounts to an NJCAA DII Baseball National Championship win. Rotruck was named the 1995 National Baseball NJCAA DII Coach of the Year.

Blessed with many talented players, he has coached three All-Americans and five players signing professionally, with Mike Duvall, LHP, making his MLB debut in 1998 with the Tampa Bay Devil Rays. He also placed numerous players into NCAA DI programs, one of which was Kevin Schnall, catcher (1996, 1997) and Hall of Fame Class of 2005 to Coastal Carolina and 2015 to Potomac State.

Rotruck took some time off from coaching at the collegiate level to follow his three children and support them in their athletic careers. Upon retiring from the Department of Justice Federal Bureau of Prisons, he became WVU Potomac State College Head Softball Coach. Over a short four-year career (2021-2024), he accumulated a record of 142-31, won four Region 20 Championships, and made three NJCAA DII World Series Appearances. According to the NJCAA Communications Office, Rotruck is the first head coach in NJCAA history to lead a baseball and softball team to the NJCAA championship tournament.

In his freshman year (1986), he played for NJCAA Hall of Fame Baseball Coach Steve Bazarnic at Allegany College, MD. He then transferred to Frostburg State University, MD, where he finished his collegiate baseball career as a three-year starting catcher (1987, 1988, 1990). Rotruck was selected to the NCAA DII All-American honorable mention and All-South Regional team as a senior. These accomplishments made Rotruck the 160th inductee into the Frostburg State University Hall of Fame Class 2009. Rotruck has also been inducted into the WVU Potomac State College Hall of Fame Class of 2011 as Head Baseball Coach.

A native of Keyser, WV, Rotruck graduated from Frostburg State University with a B.S. in Education in 1992.

He is supported by his wife, Kim; three children, Derek and his wife Erika, Brad, and Madison; and two grandchildren, Cambryn and Brody.
