Matt Lavery

Matt Lavery was named Coastal Carolina University’s Associate Athletics Director for Marketing and Fan Engagement in August of 2025.

Lavery joins Coastal after three years serving as the Associate Athletics Director for External Affairs at Campbell University. During his time in Buies Creek, Lavery contributed to a period of tremendous growth for the Camels’ athletics department. Among his accomplishments, Lavery helped lead the 2023 rebrand for Campbell that resulted in a refreshed visual identity for the University. His “Fight as ONE” brand campaign that associate the launch of the new spirit marks was recognized with a NACMA Award for Multi-Platform Brand Campaign.

Additionally, Lavery helped set records for external revenue during the 2024 and 2025 school years. In 2025, Campbell Men’s Basketball experienced its highest average attendance since the historic 2019 season including the second highest attended game in school history. Among his duties leading the Camels marketing and licensing departments, Lavery was the sport administrator for the Swimming and Cheerleading programs.

Prior to Campbell, Lavery spent time at NC State University as Assistant Director of Fan Experience and Marketing where he oversaw the marketing for the Women’s Basketball and Volleyball programs. Before NC State, he was a marketing coordinator at Georgia Tech working with the baseball program. He began his career at the University of Notre Dame as a full-time intern in the Marketing and Fan Experience department.

A native of Peoria, Ill., Lavery earned a bachelor’s degree in 2018 from Drake University where he was a four-year letter winner and captain for the men’s golf team. While at Drake, he served as the President for the Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) and as a member of the NCAA Student Athlete Advisory Committee.

He holds a Masters’ Degree from Arizona State University in Sports Law and Business.
