Women's Basketball Rout College of Charleston, 81-45 CONWAY, SC -- Coastal Carolina women's basketball team played what was easily its finest 40 minutes of basketball this season, rolling to an 81-48 victory over College of Charleston Sunday afternoon in Kimbel Arena. Nikki Reddick scored 23 points to lead four players in double-figures as the Lady Chants (4-4) had their highest scoring output in almost a year.
After the Cougars (5-4) scored the first four points of the game, Whitney Shearer and Reddick hit back-to-back 3-pointers for Coastal. The run went to 11 straight points as Crystal Brown hit a layup for CCU followed by Courtney Brown's three to make it 11-4. The Lady Chants would continue to roll from there, adding a 10-1 run late in the first half to lead 38-23 at the break.
Wilma Simpson, who nearly scored a double-double (nine points and 10 boards) in the first half for Charleston, hit a layup and a pair of free throws as the Cougars worked the lead down to 46-38 with 12:39 to play, but Coastal roared back with an 18-1 run to seal the game.
In addition to her 23 points, Reddick added eight rebounds, seven assists and four steals in her best all-around performance of the season. Shearer ended with 16 points, while Cystal Brown and Courtney Brown had 10 each, Courtney adding 11 rebounds for her first collegiate double-double.
Simpson ended with 14 points and 12 boards, the only Cougar player in double-figures, as they shot 29-percent from the floor, committing 26 turnovers.
The Lady Chants return to action this Tuesday, December 18, when they travel to South Carolina to face the Lady Gamecocks at 7:00. That game will be broadcast live on the Chanticleer Radio Network's flagship station, WRNN Hot Talk 99.5. College of Charleston next travels to face Akron on December 21.
