Women's Basketball Fall to Birmingham Southern, 69-53

CONWAY, S.C. —
Coastal Carolina women's basketball team suffered another poor night shooting, falling to the Big South's newest member, Birmingham Southern, 69-53, Saturday night at Kimbel Arena. The Lady Chants (6-10) hit only 33-percent from the floor (19-of-58), and 28-percent (5-of-18) from 3-point range in the loss.

Trailing by 10 points at the half, Nikki Reddick hit a quick bucket just 11 seconds into the new period to cut BSC's lead to 37-29, but the Lady Panthers (10-7) roared back with eight straight points in under a minute, as Lindsay Boyett and Jessica Patrick sandwiched 3-pointers around Atia Agee's layup to put BSC up 45-29. Coastal battled back and closed to within nine on Reddick's 3-pointer with 9:35 to play, but Birmingham hit 12-of-20 free throws down the stretch to ice the game.

Boyett, who leads Birmingham with 16.0 points per game, had a huge night, hitting 8-of-14 from the field for a game-high 24 points, adding six rebounds and two assists. Ricka Spears was the only other player in double-figures for BSC, adding 11 points and eight boards in the victory.

Reddick led three players in double-digits for Coastal, scoring 16 points, despite only hitting 3-of-9 from the line. Crystal Brown finished with 12 points and eight rebounds, while Courtney Brown added 10 points and nine boards in the loss.

The Lady Chants begin a three-game road trip this Thursday, Jan. 24, when they travel to Winthrop, while Birmingham Southern continues its swing through South Carolina, playing at Charleston Southern Monday, Jan 21.
