Box Score Volleyball Defeats Elon, 3-1 ELON, N.C.-- Katie Knutson smacked 19 kills and came up with 22 digs as Coastal Carolina defeated Elon 30-28, 28-30, 30-23, 30-28 in Big South Conference volleyball action Friday night at Alumni Gym.
Elon (9-24, 4-9 Big South) exploded to an early advantage by scoring the first four points. The Phoenix controlled most of game one and lead by four at 20-24. Coastal Carolina (19-10, 10-3 Big South) regrouped after their timeout and tied the score at 28 off a kill by Jeanne Lambert. The Chants were able to take game one 30-28.
In the second game, the Phoenix overcame an early 6-2 Chants advantage to tie the contest at 13, 14 and 15 before five of the games last six points - two on Farley kills - for a 30-28 win to take game two.
Elon surged out to a 4-1 lead in game three before Coastal Carolina's eight straight points and Elon's four attack errors. The Phoenix were able to close the gap at 20-19, off a Farley kill, before Coastal Carolina rallied ahead to take the third game 30-23. The Chants were strong enough to claim the fourth and final game of the match 30-28.
The Phoenix were led by Sarah Farley who smacked 14 kills and Katie Forman added 15 of Elon's 81 digs. Emily Hayes had a double-double, accumulating 13 kills and adding 11 digs for the Phoenix. Kate Hart paced the Phoenix in assists with 25 for the night.
Coastal Carolina had two players with double-doubles. Katie Knutson's 19 kills and 22 digs, along with Jeanne Lambert's 14 kills and 17 digs, paced the Chants. Jennifer Hampton led the way in assists with 47.
Elon returns to action for their final regular season game tomorrow, November 16, at 2 p.m. in Alumni Gym, while the Lady Chants travel to High Point to play the Panthers at 2 p.m.
