CHARLESTON, S.C. — Rachel King connected on four-of-seven three-pointers and Marketta Talley nailed a perfect six-of-six field goals to lead the College of Charleston women’s basketball team to a 90-61 victory over the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers in front of 247 at the John Kresse Arena.

The Cougars improve to 2-2 on the year, while the Chanticleers drop their first of the season to go to 3-1.  Charleston led by one point (23-22) with 8:42 left in the first half before going on a 25-7 run, capped by a 10-point effort by King, to go up 48-29. For the half Coastal Carolina shot 35.0 percent while Charleston had 65.5 percent.

The second half saw the Cougars hold Coastal Carolina to 22.2 percent from the field and never trail by less than 21 points.

For the contest the Cougars shot 60.7 percent from the field, while the Chanticleers shot 26.8. Rebounds were fairly even with Coastal Carolina holding the 41-36 edge. Coastal Carolina went 27-42 from the free throw line after the Cougars fouled 30 times.

The leading scorers for Charleston were King with 16, Talley with 15 and Wilma Simpson with her 13 points. Coastal Carolina was led by Nikki Reddick, who scored 22 points to move to ninth on the Chanticleer all-time scoring list with 1,0007 career points. Crystal Brown recorded a double-double with 15 points and 12 rebounds.

The Cougars are back in action Saturday, Dec. 7th when they host Southern Virginia in a 3:00 pm contest. Coastal Carolina travels to Cincinnati Dec. 7th for a 7:30 pm game.
