Women's Tennis College of Charleston Stops Lady Chants Streak

CHARLESTON, S.C.— The College of Charleston (4-1) women’s tennis team stopped Coastal Carolina’s regular season winning streak at 12 matches with a 4-3 victory Wednesday afternoon at Silcox Courts. It was the first loss in eight matches this season for the Lady Chanticleers and ended the regular season streak that began with five straight wins to close the 2001 regular season.
The College of Charleston's Whitney Malina, at number four singles, and Renata Camargo at number five singles took the first two matches of singles play to lead the Cougars to their fourth win in a row.
The Cougars took the early lead by winning two of three doubles matches. CofC was led by Gabriella Moreiraa and Marcella Valkenhoff's 8-3 victory over Emma Kidd and Lara Lendenmann at number one singles.
The Lady Chanticleers, down 4-1, rallied to win the last two singles matches. Emma Kidd defeated Charleston’s Rachel Magory 7-6 and 6-4 at number one singles and Medina Bajrambasic rallied for the 6-7, 6-4 and 6-4 victory at number two singles.
Coastal Carolina returns to action at Wofford this Saturday at 1:30 p.m.
