Women's Basketball, Reddick Lead, Defeats Charleston Southern 64-61 CONWAY, S.C. — Coastal Carolina University's Nikki Reddick put her Lady Chanticleer teammates on her back and took the team to a 64-61 Big South Conference basketball victory on Saturday night in Kimbel Arena. Coastal improves to 9-17 overall and 5-9 in the Big South Conference, while Charleston Southern falls to 11-14 overall and 6-7 in the Conference.
This game ended the regular season for both squads, which now turn their attentions to the Advance Auto Parts Big South Tournament in Roanoke, Virginia. The Lady Chanticleers will enter the tournament as the seventh seed and face second seeded Elon at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 27. The Lady Buccaneers will enter the tourney as the fifth seed and take on fourth seeded High Point in the opening round at 2:00 p.m.
Reddick scored 20 of her game-high 32 points in the first half as Coastal built as much as a 15-point lead in the opening 20 minutes. Trailing 11-10 with 13:00 remaining in the first half, Coastal went on a 19-3 run to take a 29-14 lead with 6:03 on the clock. The Lady Chanticleers went on to hold a 39-25 lead at the break.
Charleston Southern opened the second half with a 16-6 run to close the gap to just four points at 44-40 with 9:59 to play. The game remained close the rest of the way and the Lady Bucs pulled to within a pair at 63-61 on a 3-pointer by Jessica Farley with 11 second on the clock. Reddick tried to dribble out the clock, but was fouled by Cesurian Champagne with just three seconds remaining. She connected on just one of the two free throws, but Charleston Soothern failed to get off a shot as the final buzzer sounded.
Reddick connected on 10-of-17 from the field, including 5-of-9 from behind the 3-point arc. The redshirt-sophomore also added five rebounds and five steals. Rebekah Ingle, playing in her final home game at Coastal Carolina, grabbed a season-high eight rebounds.
Champagne was the star of the night for Charleston Southern as she posted a double-double with 15 points and 18 rebounds. Erin Jedlikowski paced the Lady Buccaneers on the scoreboard with 19 points.
