Women's Basketbal Fall To Elon, 60-50

CONWAY, SC—
Coastal Carolina women's basketball team kept pace with Elon through the first 30 minutes, but ran out of steam at the end, falling 60-50 in Kimbel Arena Monday night. The Phoenix, who are battling for first place in the Big South, improved to 12-10 overall and 8-2 in the conference, while the Lady Chants fell to 7-14, and 3-6.

After falling behind by seven early, Coastal cut the gap in the final minutes of the first half, and took its first lead of the game on a pair of Nikki Reddick free throws, 24-23, with four minutes remaining in the period. Following three lead changes, Elon's Holly Andrews hit a basket with eight seconds left to put the Phoenix up 29-28 at the half.

Whitney Shearer's 3-pointer put Coastal back on top, 33-31, two minutes into the second half, but that would be CCU's last lead of the night, as Elon answered with an 18-4 run, capped by an Andrews 3-pointer. Andrews, who has averaged 24.4 points over the last five games, led the way with 24 points on 8-of-16 shooting, as only five Phoenix players dented the scoring column. Milica Milosavljevic scored 14 points and Ivey Ghee added 11 in the victory, while Reddick led Coastal with 15 points on 4-of-23 shooting, and Shannon Calabrese added 10 in the loss.

The Lady Chants return to action Saturday, Feb. 9, when they travel to Radford, while Elon returns home to host Winthrop, Feb. 9.
