Box Score Volleyball Defeats Radford in Three CONWAY, S.C.–The Coastal Carolina University volleyball team (11-6, 3-0 Big South) extended its winning streak to seven matches and remained unbeaten in the Big South Conference with a 3-0 victory over Radford University (1-15, 0-2 BSC). Coastal defeated the Highlanders by scores of 30-23, 30-16 and 30-18.
Coastal defeated Radford in game one with a .314 hitting percentage. The Lady Chants raced out to a 13-2 lead with an eight-point run. The two teams went back-and-forth and Radford actually cut the lead to six at 22-16, but Coastal and Radford traded points the rest of the way and sophomore Jennifer Hampton (Lake Forest, Calif./El Toro) ended the game with a kill.
Coastal held the Highlanders to under-20 points in games two and three. The Lady Chants hit .344 in game two as Radford had 10 hitting errors. Coastal scored nine of the last 11 points and sophomore Katherine Jensen (Vancouver, B.C./Sentinel Secondary) had three kills and five digs in the game. Game three had four service aces and a .283 hitting percentage for Coastal in the 30-18 win. With senior Sarah Bennett (Eagan, Minn./Eagan) serving, Coastal raced out to a 12-2 lead and the Lady Chants would lead by as many as 14 points at 23-9. Senior Carly Draudt (Santa Margarita, Calif./Santa Margarita) closed out the match with a kill.
Jensen had her 11th double-double of the season with 16 kills and 17 digs. Freshman Kristin Rinne (Fountain Hills, Ariz./Fountain Hills) added 19 digs, while Hampton had 33 assists. All 12 players on the Coastal squad saw action in the match.
Radford was led by Sarah Gates with eight kills. Kathryn McHugh added 14 digs.
Coastal faces Liberty University Saturday, Oct. 4, at 2 p.m., in Kimbel Arena.
